Latest spam policies:

Google has announced three new spam policies to curb the increasing malpractices affecting Google’s search results quality. 

The policies are 

  • Site reputation abuse
  • Scaled content abuse
  • Expired domain abuse

Websites that violate these policies might not appear or have a low rank in search results. Google will send a notice to site owners via their registered Search Console account and allow them to apply for reconsideration.

Site reputation abuse

Third party websites sometimes publish pages without the supervision or consent of first party sites. This is done usually to manipulate the site’s search rankings using the high ranking signals of the first party site. Partner sites, sponsored or advertising pages, etc that do not link to a host site are examples of the above said third party websites. Their content provides little or zero value to viewers.

However, all third party sites are not policy violators. Advertorials or native advertising sites that post content regularly for their readers have their publication posted on the original publisher’s site. Readers can land on the publisher’s site when they search the topic on Google. Therefore these third party sites are not manipulative and Google Search won’t block them.

Scaled content abuse

Scaled content abusers create large quantities of unauthentic content that have zero value and are not useful to the readers. 

The new policy identifies and rejects scaled content abuse on websites whether they are generated through automation, human text, or both in combination.

Expired domain abuse

Some websites purposely use the past reputation of a popular but expired website domain to rank high and get noticed on search engines and promote a low value content  For instance an abuser could purchase the expired domain of a popular video gaming website and reuse it to host a low quality rummy game content. He would expect his website to gain ranking on Google search engine using the expired domain website name.

However, Google will approve an old domain name when used to create a new and authentic website with useful and valuable content.
